First Osteopathic appointment
The first appointment will last approximately one hour and includes a detailed case history, physical examination, diagnosis and osteopathic treatment.
Before I start to treat you, I will take a full case history to understand your symptoms. I will also ask about your medical history, general health, daily routine and what is happening in your life. Everything you tell me is kept strictly confidential.
A physical examination will follow during which you may be asked to undress to your underwear. If you feel more comfortable in a t-shirt and shorts please bring them with you. Gowns are also available on request.
This examination allows me to assess your posture and body movements. It will include orthopaedic, clinical and neurological testing to aid diagnosis.
I will then discuss my findings with you and we will agree a treatment plan. If I feel osteopathic treatment is not suitable for you, I may refer you to your GP or another healthcare specialist.
Treatment is different for every patient but may include techniques such as soft tissue massage and joint articulation to release tension, stretch muscles, help relieve pain and mobilise your joints.
